The Salvation Army for a new generation

If someone was to look back at every choice you've made in the past five years, how would they feel? Could you defend every choice you've made? Right now that's exactly what is happening to every MP who is standing for re-election in their local area. They are expected to be able to explain the way they have voted in parliament, and to prove they have represented their local area during the last five years. Not everyone will agree with the choices they have made, and everyone they meet on the campaign trail will have different views on life, and different party alliances.

In 2014 ALOVE launched the first UK ‘I’ll Fight Day. We took inspiration from The Salvation Army in the USA, who run these days annually. The goal is for young people to go out into their local communities to share the gospel and show God’s love in practical ways, with no strings attached.

Our resident film buff Grace shares this week's recommendation...

‘Now, if you wish you could have been normal... I can promise you I do not. The world is an infinitely better place precisely because you weren't.’

The Imitation Game came out on DVD on the 9th March. It stars my favourite actor EVER Benedict Cumberbatch, aka Sherlock, and the beautiful Kiera Knightley, well known for her role as Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Throughout 2015 our ALOVE Cell Material will focus on the wider Salvation Army UK theme of Open Your Eyes – A Vision for Transformed Living. Each month we will be looking at the things that we can open our eyes to so that we can truly live a transformed life. That might be through the way we live, the things we do and the experiences that we open ourselves up to. In our February Cell and Cell Extra we are specifically looking at worship.

Each day we will be setting a challenge for you to try and capture a photo on theme with that day's thought. Make sure you share your photos with us on Twitter using the #Adventpic or post to our Facebook page. We hope you enjoy sharing with us in this way throughout Advent.

or
Am I weird because I don’t like brass band music? (Delete as appropriate)

Thank God that He made us all differently. Some of us prefer Pepsi to Coke. Some of us prefer Strictly Come Dancing to X Factor. And some of us prefer Cadburys to Galaxy. So whether you’re into Ray Steadman Allen or Ray Charles, don’t stress about it. Embrace the individuality God has made you with and enjoy the creativity He has given us as humans in all its different forms.
