I heard last week that an idol is something that takes you way from God.

And I tried really hard to pretend that I didn’t have any idols, that it wasn’t me who was one of those people who put something else before God. But actually I am one of those people.

‘When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.’ Matthew 18:19-20 (MSG)

The Bible is an amazing and beautiful gift from God. It is so much more than a book, so much more than a resource or tool. It’s the gift that keeps on giving! Did you know – the Bible has been translated into more than 1,200 languages, and it is historically the best-selling book of all time!  It contains 66 books split into the Old and New Testaments, and there are said to be around 40 different people who wrote various parts of the Bible over 1,600 years between 1500BC and 100AD. But why is it such a hot seller?

Acts 2:42-47

‘Sometimes people think church is like a baseball bat. For most of the time they play nice little games with their friends. Then once a year they go out into the High Street and hit someone over the head with it.’ - Milton Jones

For the first time ever, the quarter finals are made up of all 8 group winners. This statistic may seem to suggest that the best teams have walked their way through the tournament. However, this is far from the case.

The last 16 games had everything in them. Last minute goals, dodgy penalties, unbelievable technical skill and of course the dreaded penalty shoot outs. Personally from the eight games only Colombia stood out as playing well enough to win the tournament but with Brazil in the quarters it will be the hardest game they have experienced so far.

We’ve reached that time of year when the summer holidays are fast approaching and thoughts are starting to focus on all things new including a new school year!

Moving to secondary school can be both exciting and scary. It’s the start of a brand new journey; new friends to make, new subjects to learn, new opportunities and experiences. Maybe you can’t wait to get there, or maybe you are feeling a bit sad and nervous about the ‘big move’.

Expectations

Before the World Cup started I’m sure we all had our favourites written down on whom we expected to win, how far England would go and more importantly who would knock us out in the quarter finals on penalties.

I always think there is something really amazing about an African group singing. So when I saw a video of the Ghana football team singing and worshiping before a huge African nations match against Egypt, you can imagine my excitement.  And this wasn’t a one off event.  As I searched for more videos, there are loads of videos of the team celebrating and worshiping after qualifying for the World Cup and even when arriving at an airport.
