Welcome to the ALOVE Youth Participation survey. We would like to hear your views on how you would like to have your say and get involved in The Salvation Army locally, divisionally (regionally) and territorially (nationally).

ALOVE is The Salvation Army for a new generation. As The Salvation Army's national youth office, we are responsible for youth work in The Salvation Army across the UK and Ireland. We work with young people aged 12-25 and youth workers.

‘X Factor’ finalist JAHMÉNE DOUGLAS tells Renée Davis how singing helped him overcome a traumatic past and how his faith affects his music

ON the final night of The X Factor last year, Jahméne Douglas stepped onstage. He sang ‘Angels’ and ‘Move on up’ and duetted with his mentor Nicole Scherzinger in ‘The Greatest Love of All’. Nicole cried. The audience cheered. Would he be the X Factor winner? How would the public vote?

It was an exciting night for the shy guy with the big voice. But life had not always been so positive for Jahméne.

Every month we will be featuring a different youth project. We are going to use this space to flag up some of the amazing stuff that is happening in the UK territory and also hopefully encourage others in their youth ministry!

This month the focus is on the wonderful youth workers and young people of Southwark Salvation Army. Keep reading to find out about the area, their young people’s provision and some tasters as to what they get up to!

In May 2012 we launched the Cut It Out campaign. A campaign that aims to raise awareness to the global issue of human trafficking for sexual exploitation as well as this we have been encouraging people to join or start ACT groups (a Stop the Traffik initiative), campaign for tighter regulations for the advertising of sexual services online and campaign to see an end to the advertising of sexual services in our UK newspapers.

A new year means a new theme for ALOVE. In recent years we have introduced a theme each year so that it can help us journey through the months in our cell material, articles, resources and events in a focused direction so that we are able to really get stuck into exploring something specific.

So our theme for 2013 is ….water!

Make sure you check out our new resource 'Cell Extra'. This resource will help you to dig a little bit deeper into the theme that our regular online cell material will be covering that month, but will also give those of you that are not in a cell group the opportunity to be able to explore the themes that we are covering in our cell material on your own. Cell Extra will be posted in our resource zone every month and is made up of 6 short sessions. Let us know what you think!

Check out the material here - enjoy!
